JOB TITLE: Principal/Headmaster 

REPORTS TO: Board of Directors

SUPERVISES: Faculty, Staff, and Students 

     

St. Thomas Aquinas Classical Academy is a new and upcoming K-12 liberal arts academy in the Catholic intellectual tradition which desires to partner with parents in the formation of our students to become holy disciples to each other and to the world around them.  


St. Thomas Aquinas Classical Academy is seeking a founding headmaster who is a dynamic and innovative educational leader with a strong commitment to the Catholic liberal arts, homeschooling, and to the mission of educating our children for eternity!  


We are seeking a driven leader with the ability to promote the academy’s Catholic and liberal arts mission while managing, evaluating and supervising effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the Academy consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, and goals of the Academy.    


Duties and responsibilities include the following:


  • overseeing of the recruitment, selection, retention and management of qualified faculty and staff ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and academic objectives;
  • the implementation of discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly environment which encourages growth in virtue;
  • the overseeing of building maintenance and its beautification;
  • office operations, and emergency procedures, as well as overseeing its accreditation, its commitment to academic excellence, and that the methods of teaching and learning are consistent with our mission and philosophies;
  • enrollment
  • development
  • care of our facilities;
  • implementing policies and operational objectives which encourage a balanced budget;
  • Most importantly, our founding headmaster will be responsible, in union with the Board of Directors, for creating a joyful, charitable, and virtuous culture among our faculty, staff, students and their families where everyone is loved and appreciated for who they are as a son or daughter of our High King, and where all of our thoughts and actions are directed toward the good of one another and the salvation of souls


The ideal candidate will have/be:


  • A practicing Catholic committed to the traditions and traditional teaching of the Holy Catholic Church with a willingness to live by the tenets of the Catholic Faith, in both lifestyle and on personal social media  
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in the Humanities, Theology, or Thomistic Philosophy
  • A history of headmaster experience in a Catholic liberal arts school of at least 5 years
  • A strong commitment to the Catholic faith and the school’s mission and vision.
  • A passion for teaching and learning in the classical tradition, with a preference for Socratic and mimetic methods, as well as for primary sources
  • A familiarity with the works of St. Thomas Aquinas, the Fathers of the Church, Chesterton, and other great authors of the Western literary tradition
  • A humble character so that he/she may willingly work with other teachers and staff in a professional and collegial manner
  • A great work ethic
  • An openness to possibly working on a weekend or a week night
  • A willingness to attend and support the Academy’s events, socials, and fundraisers
  • A flexibility and adaptability to the needs and challenges of a new and growing school.   


**Although not necessary, a Master’s Degree in Education or in School Administration or a Principal’s certification is strongly preferred and may be considered over a candidate without either. If a candidate does not have such a degree, but has expereince in this position and is open to completing this preference within a reasonable period,

 should the Board request it, he will be given strong consideration. **

St. Thomas Aquinas Classical Academy is seeking teacher mentors for grades K-6 for the 2025-26 school year who are knowledgeable in the Catholic liberal arts and who desire to create a loving and joyful learning experience for our students.  


As teachers, mentors, and witnesses to our Holy Catholic Faith, applicants should be practicing Catholics committed to the traditions and traditional teaching of the Holy Catholic Church with a willingness to live a holy and exemplary Catholic life, both in school, outside of school, and on social media; desire to foster a love of learning for its own sake; and to demonstrate Christ's sacrificial love for his/her students.


Primary and Lower School Teachers (K-6) Should:

  • have a love of children
  • have strong skills in classroom management rooted in the modeling and practical application of virtue
  • be able to teach dialectically and mimetically (training will be available)
  • be able to create a joyful academic environment which encourages an enthusiasm and love of learning
  • be proficient in teaching the core subjects of the STACA curriculum.


Strong applicants will also have previous experience in the classroom, will have strong and professional communication skills, will be dependable, organized, and will have an approachable demeanor.  


As our model and method of teaching is unique, serious applicants must be willing to study and learn from other teachers and mentors

 trained in classical teaching methods.


Teachers are expected to become an integral part of our community life and to be actively supportive of the reception of the Sacraments, attendance at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass during school hours, extra-curricular school events and activities.

As teachers, mentors, and witnesses to our Holy Catholic Faith, applicants should be practicing Catholics committed to the traditions and traditional teaching of the Holy Catholic Church with a willingness to live a holy and exemplary Catholic life, both in school, outside of school, and on social media; desire to foster a love of learning for its own sake; and to demonstrate Christ's sacrificial love for his/her students.


Middle School Teachers (7-8) Should:

  • have a love of children
  • have strong skills in classroom management rooted in the modeling and practical application of virtue
  • be able to teach dialectically and mimetically (training will be available)
  • be able to create a joyful academic environment which encourages an enthusiasm and love of learning
  • have an introductory knowledge of Latin and Logic
  • be proficient and able to introduce students in the art of Socratic discourse
  • be proficient in teaching the core subjects of the STACA curriculum.


Strong applicants will also have previous experience in the classroom, will have strong and professional communication skills, will be dependable, organized, and will have an approachable demeanor.  


As our model and method of teaching is unique, serious applicants must be willing to study and learn from other teachers and mentors

 trained in classical teaching methods.
