A reknowned Catholic artist throughout the United States, Michelle Arnold Paine earned her B.A. in Art and English at Gordon College and her M.F.A. from University of New Hampshire. She grew up an Evangelical Christian and began to explore the visual richness of Catholicism while studying in Italy during college, which eventually led her into the fullness of the Roman Catholic Church.
Michelle was confirmed at Easter 2001 in the Cathedral of Orvieto, Italy. During the years she spent living and working in Italy for an American study abroad program, she steeped herself in the Renaissance masters, the rhythms of the Catholic liturgy, and the intimacy and beauty of daily Italian life. She now lives in Perrysburg with her husband and two daughters.
Michelle has been teaching college students, adult learners and high school students “how to see” since 2007. God created an incredible world if we can learn to pay attention. “I can’t draw” and “I don’t know anything about art” is the perfect place to start! She bring her love for art history into the studio classroom, using images of the past to help students understand the power of visual communication and the amazing capacity of inert materials to animate our souls.
