Welcome to St. Thomas Aquinas Classical HEP

Finding A Home as a Catholic Homeschooler in Toledo!

We are excited to bring you an opportunity for your homeschooled student(s) to learn and pray with other students and families who cherish Holy Mother Church and the fullness of her teachings! Our homeschool enrichment program (HEP) offers a variety of options for families who learn at home so that every family who desires a community in which to learn and grow has a place to call home.  These options include a two-day a week program, an Enrichment Day, and/or an option to attend as either an audit/full-credit student.

St. Thomas Aquinas Classical HEP provides the best of both worlds:  learning at home and learning alongside other like-minded students who are also searching for Truth.  As an HEP, we understand that parents are the primary educators of their children and that we are partnering with them to provide the best education possible for their children to grow and mature in the moral and civic virtues.  Becuase they are an integral part of our community, homeschool families are fully incorporated into the St. Thomas Aquinas Classical Academy family and culture and participate in the same mission to prepare our children for eternal life with the Blessed Trinity.

Two Day/Week Program

Participation in Academy Classes

Participation in Academy Classes

Welcome to our Two Day/Week Program!

Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays for 12 weeks each semester, with a break week after every 5th week.

The the Two Day/Week Program is a FULL program. Students enrolled MUST attend ALL classes each week.

Because it runs only 12 weeks each semester  rather than the 18 weeks that the Academy does, the Two Day/Week Program has its own calendar/class schedule apart from the Academy.

Parents are encouraged to be involved with their children's education.  As the primary educators of their children, we joyfully allow for parents to sit-in during their student(s) classes to help enrich what they are teaching at home.

Parents are also encouraged to be in close contact with HEP tutors and administrators and to participate in student/tutor conferences each semester.

Although it is strongly encouraged that each student has the same texts suggested by the HEP, parents may choose other texts than those suggested for History, Math, Science, and Latin. However, it is necessary AND required for the student’s participation to have and to read the SAME LITERARY titles and versions of works being studied and discussed in Literature class.

Parents may either purchase their own books or may rent those used in our course offerings for $250/student.

If the books are returned at the end of the year in good condition and without markings, $50/student will be credited toward the next year's books or will be credited back to the enrolled family.

Tutors provide WRITTEN homework assignments, tests, and the grading of each. Parents may opt their student out of any of these requirements; however, we encourage parents to only opt thier children out of these assignments  because they may not align with the parents goals for their children and not due to a lack of character development. Our goal as parents and as a program is to encourage the growth in wisdom and virtue in our children, which often derives from the completion of difficult tasks and expectations.

Students MUST complete ALL READING assignments, even if the parent has opted him/her out of a written assignment.

  Participation in Academy Classes

Students may participate in St. Thomas Aquinas Classical Academy classes in TWO ways:

Full Credit

Students wishing to participate in FULL CREDIT classes (e.g. Math, Science, History, Literature, etc….) are required to attend class EVERY day and to complete ALL assignments, quizzes, and tests for an accredited Academy grade which may be provided on a transcript per the parent(s) request.

Enrichment (Audit)

Students wishing to AUDIT Academy classes are permitted to sit in and be part of the day's work and conversation but will not be provided any grading of homework or assessments.   Students are invited to complete classwork and homework, but parents will be responsible for grading the assignments at home.

Upon request, answer keys for assigned work or assessments may be provided to parents or they may have their student's work graded for an extra small fee.

Audit students may choose to participate or not in class discussions, but they should in no way distract the class from its goals and/or activities.

Enrichment Days

Enrichment Days

Every week, Academy classes will host an Enrichment Day for homeschoolers to come and enjoy playing games, reciting poetry, singing in our Schola, and performing enrichment activities and science experiments with our Academy students.

Each Enrichment Day's activities will reinforce what our Academy students have learned during that week in a fun and enjoyable way that fosters the culture and charity of our Catholic community.

For this same reason, children enrolled in this program will remain at the Academy for the entire day and will be fully integrated in all classes and activities, including morning prayer, lunch, and recess.
